Getting Our Heads Back in the Game - The Full Monty (Community Theatre)
Is This Mic On? I’ve got a note for my cast and crew… Okay good, I have something to say.
We’re heading into our final weekend of The Full Monty, and I know how this goes. The adrenaline of opening night has worn off. The sparkle of last Saturday’s audience laughter has settled into memory. We’re all juggling jobs, kids, classes, house stuff, and whatever else this week decided to throw our way. And now… it’s Friday.
We didn’t have a brush-up rehearsal. Just a week in between to flip through lines, remind ourselves of transitions, and maybe - if we’re lucky - remember where our props landed last Sunday. (Does anyone know where Madelyn’s backpack is? Just kidding… I think she found it Sunday.) For me, it’s those second-act costume changes. They’re fast, and I can’t forget to put the right hair back on. (Theatre magic, right?)
But here’s what I know: It always comes back.
The moment we step into the wings, something shifts. The noise of the outside world fades, and the heartbeat of this show kicks back in. We find our light, we find each other, and we find the story we’ve built together.
The Full Monty asks a lot of us.
It’s vulnerable, hilarious, awkward, honest, and so deeply human. It’s about courage and connection - about standing beside your people and daring to be seen. And honestly? That’s what community theatre is. It’s humans showing up for each other, over and over, no matter what the week looked like outside these walls.
So, to my cast and crew: Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Shake off the week. Trust yourself.
You know this show. You know these lines, these cues, these laughs. They live in you now.
Let’s bring that magic back to the stage this weekend. Let’s give our audience the energy, the heart, and the humor that makes this show so special. Because when we give them everything we’ve got - they give it right back. Their laughter, their cheers, their applause - it fuels us.
So let’s go out there and finish strong.
Let’s show them what it looks like when a group of people come together and create something brave, funny, messy, and real.
Here’s to closing weekend. To courage, joy, and a little bit of chaos. To every single one of you who made this show what it is. And, if anyone is still looking to come to the show - our final dates are: October 10-12 - tickets available online or at the door!
