Gems of Jackson: Building Community Through Childcare and Beyond
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of touring Gems of Jackson, part of The Welcome Home Organization (WHO) in the Flat Iron District of Jackson.
As an outing with the Jackson Business & Professional Women’s group, we met Vittoria Jimerson, a passionate and honest woman who is reshaping what support for families can look like in our city. She isn’t originally from Jackson, but she believes deeply in giving back to the place where you live - and her energy is rooted in transparency, honesty, and forward momentum.
At Gems of Jackson, children ages 6 weeks to 12 years are cared for in a safe, nurturing environment that combines academic preschool programming, play, and family engagement.
As part of The Welcome Home Organization (WHO’S) larger mission - to build resilience and cultivate hope by partnering with families, veterans, and youth to create pathways to opportunity, dignity, and community wellness - this center stands as Jackson’s first-ever 24-hour childcare program, meeting the needs of parents who work long or nontraditional hours.
Vittoria knows that raising good, hardworking kids takes a whole community - and she’s leading by example.
The work doesn’t stop there. WHO and Gems of Jackson are also building opportunities through:
Bowling and golf scholarships for children
STEAM-based learning connected to Gramma T’s Garden & Greenhouse
A pollinator garden and playground (where volunteers are invited to paint tires, plant, and tend!)
And, coming soon, a community market - the first on the south side of Jackson in over 50 years, opening in early 2026.
Vittoria’s vision is bold: sustainability for families, bilingual education opportunities, exposure to trades and agriculture, and real connections between families and resources.
If you’ve got time or talent to share - whether it’s gifting a bowling scholarship, planting in the garden, or lending a hand at the future market - you’ll be joining a movement that believes every child in Jackson is a gem worth polishing.
